“When you are feeling overwhelmed
to the point of giving up or feeling down,
start small.”
— Leslie Yerkes
Here are some ideas I use to start small. Feel free to use them.
- Start with the essentials and self-care.
- Make a little plan. It is impossible to dig out of a deep hole in a single day.
- Do something small and then something bigger from the top of the priority list.
- Attend to the activities that will avoid making the “hole” deeper.
- Do things that make you feel good.
- Plan for some fun and reconnect with friends and family.
- Straighten up your life “one room” at a time. I call it my sloth movement mode. As long as you are forward-facing, progress will be made.
- Ask for and accept help.
- Delegate some things.
- Let go of what doesn’t serve you.
- Practice humility, vulnerability, and gratitude. They are all superpowers and strengths.
- Breathe.
- Celebrate.
- Share.
I’m sharing this plan because I’m currently working on it. I would appreciate your insights and ideas so we can expand this list of good actions. Together, we will find ways to respond, recover, and create a brighter future.
